Leaving O2 Pac Code

Where I live I have discovered that we do not get the best o2 reception.  I hate to leave them because I have liked them, but I must get a better server for my area.  One of the things that I learned from my friend is that if I am going to get  an o2 pac code request from o2, I need to make sure that I do it before I cancel my account.  Once I have cancelled my account, a pac code would be ineffective and I would lose my number.  Talk about being real bummed, because I am real determined to keep my number.
