1993 Grand National Disaster

July 31st, 2008 by admin

Back in 1993 the Grand National is abandoned. The mechanical recall system that controls the horse retractor fails, two false starts happen and many of the runners complete two circuits. Eisha Ness goes through first, in a grand national race that essentially wasn’t won. Because the race was abandoned the press and media went wild, blaming aintree organizer for the blunders. It only got worse when Prince Margaret decided it best to submit an official complaint to the management of the famout aintree racecourse, and a government enquiry began. Future races were controlled by a pnuematic retractors which are said to be more reliable.
