Delivering the Bad News, or My Syllabus

December 6th, 2009 by admin

I like being a popular teacher on campus, but more, I like being an effective teacher. Fortunately, I don’t feel that one precludes the other. In fact, quite the opposite. As far as I’m concerned, a memorable lecture is a good lecture. And I want my class to be memorable. So when my first class of the year is seated, I give them the bad news…what papers I expect, and how I expect them…and I tell my students that they’re more than welcome to use an APA machine to help with their citations when they do them. Most of them have never heard that before. It’s one of the ones I help make my class better.
