Can a novice really hypnotize anyone?

I think I already know what most people are going to say, but I have to ask the question anyway. Is it really possible for someone who doesn’t really know what they’re doing to hypnotize anyone? I know the people selling hypnosis courses will say it is, but I’d like to hear from some non-experts who can show me why I should bellieve them.
It’s not that I don’t believe learning hypnosis is impossible or anything, but I’m wondering how long it will take before I have the same kind of results as, say, a guy like Criss Angel.
