If your door is operated using a torsion spring, then it is more advisable to let a professional handle it. To know whether your garage door is operated with a torsion or extension spring, just count how many springs the door uses. There are usually one to two extension springs per side of a garage door while only one torsion spring is necessary. The latter is more dangerous and complicated.
