My husband and I found a house we really like, and we wanted to put an offer in on it. We had never been through the pre-approval process, so we weren’t sure how much we would even be qualified to borrow. My husband called a mortgage broker, and I overheard him talking on the phone. My husband asked, what is a conventional home loan? When he got off the phone, he reported the news to me. We qualified for several types of loans. We would be able to buy a more expensive house, if we could put down twenty percent. If we could not, we would qualify for other types of mortgages, but we would have to find a home that was less expensive.
