character in terms of perseverance

What are some of the things that we need to develop in terms of our character when we want to succeed more in our business and in our personal lives ? Many people have good intentions and look to do more in their lives but when things get tough they give up, in other words they have failed to develop enough in their character in terms of perseverance so that when things do not turn out the correct way in the first place, they continue and continue to accomplish what it is that they set out to do in the first place.
