Understanding the new British number plate system is pretty easy

March 30th, 2008 by admin

Understanding the new system for vehicle identification in the UK is not hard at all. These number plates used a system of seven letters and numbers. This sequence will tell you when and where the vehicle is registered. The first letter of the plate tells you were the vehicle was registered, while the second letter indicates the DVLA office. The following two numbers will tell you the date of the registration: the first number will either be a 0 or a 5 — a 0 indicates a March-August registration, while the 5 tells you the vehicle was registered from September-February. The second number tells the year. So “53″ tells us that vehicle is registered in September of 2003, while “04″ tells us that vehicle was registered in March, 2004. And the final three letters? They are simply chosen at random to help to provide a unique identifier for each specific vehicle.
